Protect Your Metal Prefab Buildings with our 50-Year Rust Warranty

50-Year Rust Perforation Warranty

Every Buildway steel building kit is backed by a 50-year rust perforation warranty on all Galvalume Plus™ steel panels and structural components. It means your building will keep its strength and fight off rust for years to come. Just make sure it’s set up and maintained correctly.

What’s Covered

  • Rust Perforation: We cover any rust that causes perforation of steel panels or structural members for 50 years from the date of delivery.

  • Manufacturing Defects: All materials are covered against manufacturing defects that exist at the time of delivery.

  • Engineered Components: Warranty applies to all pre-engineered steel components supplied directly by Buildway.

  • Paint Finish: Galvalume Plus™ panels include a manufacturer’s paint warranty of 40–50 years, depending on the panel type.

  • Limited One-Year Coverage: All other components we supply (fasteners, trim, hardware, etc.) are covered for 12 months against manufacturer defects.

What’s Not Covered

  • Third-party accessories such as doors, windows, or insulation that are not manufactured by Buildway.
  • Improper storage, handling, or installation.
  • Damage from site conditions such as poor drainage, inadequate foundations, or standing water.
  • Unauthorized modifications or field alterations (e.g., welding, unapproved openings).
  • Exposure to corrosive chemicals, saltwater/marine environments, fertilizers, or treated lumber beyond normal conditions.
  • Condensation, mold, cosmetic discoloration, chalking, or fading that does not cause perforation.
  • Acts of nature outside the engineered design loads (storms, flooding, earthquakes).

Customer Responsibilities

To maintain warranty coverage, customers must:

  • Follow Installation Guidelines: Buildings must be erected according to the engineered drawings and specifications provided.
  • Obtain Permits & Code Approvals: Local building permits and inspections are the responsibility of the owner or their contractor.
  • Prepare the Site Properly: Adequate foundation, drainage, and site preparation are required to prevent issues that could void coverage.
  • Perform Regular Maintenance: Remove debris, check for standing water, inspect cut edges for white rust, and seal as needed. Annual maintenance is strongly recommended.

How to File a Warranty Claim

If you believe you have a valid warranty claim:

  1. Document the Issue: Take clear photos and note the location and description of the problem.
  2. Contact Buildway: Call +1 855-944-1515 or email [email protected] with your order details, photos, and a written description of the issue.
  3. Inspection & Review: Buildway will review your claim and may request additional information or an on-site inspection.
  4. Resolution: If approved, Buildway will repair or replace defective materials with comparable materials at our discretion. Here are a few important points to keep in mind:
    • The customer pays shipping for replacement materials and any required return shipping.
    • Labor, removal, reinstallation, equipment, and travel costs are not covered.
    • Total claim value cannot exceed the original purchase price of the building.

Claims must be submitted in writing within 30 days of discovering the defect, and will expire if not filed within 1 year of when the defect first appears.

Warranty FAQs

FAQ’s

We’re here to help!

Whether it’s about our pre-engineered steel building kits, prefab metal structures, or customization options, Buildway is ready to provide the answers you need. Our expert team guides you through every step ensuring a smooth and confident building experience.
Do I need a licensed contractor to install my building for the warranty to apply?

No. Your warranty remains valid whether you hire a professional or build it yourself, as long as the building is erected according to the engineered drawings and specifications. Proof of licensed installation isn’t required, but the structure must meet the design loads and follow the provided plans.

Not if the modification changes the steel components. Any unapproved welding, field cuts, or added openings will void the warranty on the affected parts because these changes can compromise the protective coatings and structural integrity.

The warranty does not cover rust caused by marine or coastal exposure, salt spray, or other highly corrosive conditions that go beyond normal weather. While your building can still perform well with proper maintenance, the salty, moisture-rich air common near oceans can speed up corrosion and is considered outside the warranty’s standard coverage.

No. Condensation, white rust, cosmetic discoloration, fading, and chalking are considered normal surface conditions and are not treated as rust perforation. Because they do not compromise the structural integrity of the steel, these issues are excluded from warranty coverage, even if they affect the appearance of the panels.

Regular maintenance like cleaning gutters, sealing cut edges, and removing standing water is strongly recommended. Neglecting maintenance can allow water or chemicals to damage the steel, which may void the warranty if it leads to perforation.

The warranty stays with the original buyer, not the building itself. If the property is sold, the coverage does not automatically follow the building, and only the person who originally purchased the kit can file a claim.
